This software is just crap and it should be uninstalled and forgotten. I have completely purged Skype from my Mac, including its preference file, caches, etc. The prompts started coming back within hours. At first it seemed that if I remove the keychain entries from Skype from the Keychain app, the prompts would stop. I just have to tell them that I don't have a fix for it yet. Several of the users that I support have complained to me about this. This problem started for me only a few months ago. They have had plenty of time to work with Apple to fix this. I read a Microsoft forum thread that goes back to 2015. Microsoft is well aware that this is happening. It's a Skype problem, not an Apple problem. Skype is the only app installed on my Macs that does this. Hope it goes well for you!! I may look into it a bit later if I get time, but I'm quite busy lately, so just thought I'd offer those bits of advice in case I don't get a chance to look it up :) Keep avoiding it for now until you hear back from the Skype team. Good on you for avoiding interaction! A friend of mine had a pop up for Chrome a few years back, and just clicking the deny button meant they had interacted and they got hacked, but fortunately it was a relatively new laptop that didn't have any personal info on it. Let them know what the pop up says, and I think they may be able to check whether or not it's a hacking attempt.

2 would be to contact the official Skype help, I'm not sure of the details off the top of my head but you should be able to find it on the Skype website on a contact or help page. 1 would be to delete (if you're comfortable doing that) the Skype applicarion off the computer and then reinstall it. Hmm I'm not entirely sure myself, but I have two recommendations. From what I can tell, nobody really knows what's actually causing the problem, and while there are 'fixes,' it doesn't seem like there's any really reliable fixes that are guaranteed to work all the time, or work permanently, beyond hitting "always allow," which can still be dangerous apparently.īottom line, though, it probably isn't a hacking attempt, and it's safe to hit the "deny" button, but the computer will keep hounding you about it infrequently, and it might take you hammering the "deny" button a few times to get the prompt to go away. The Keychain app apparently doesn't always play nice with apps like Skype, and miscommunications can sometimes occur between one app and the other somehow. UPDATE: I figured, even though it's been over a month since I posted this, that I might at least follow up with what I've learned in the intervening time, in case anybody else is experiencing this problem.Īpparently it's not a problem on Skype's end, it's a known issue on Apple's end, and it involves their "Keychain" app. If I can help it I'd like to avoid updating things because I have a very weird case of OCD that manifests in very strange ways. If anybody can help it'd be much appreciated. It's High Sierra.Īnd I'm using an (admittedly outdated, I know) version of Skype.

I'm on Skype for Mac using an (admittedly outdated, I know) version of the OS. For a while, that would send it away for days at a time, but now it's coming back faster and faster, usually around 6 hours after I reboot now.ĭoes anybody know what this is? Or at least if it's some kind of malicious attack or not so I know I can safely press "deny" or "allow" so that it'll go away? I've avoided even interacting with this pop up at all by literally rebooting my computer every time it comes up because I am a tech-illiterate coward and there's no other way to get it to go away without interacting with it. Skype wants to sign in using key "Apple ID Authentication 18:59:25 GMT-06:00 in your keychain Do you want to allow access to this item?Īnd then it gives me the options to "always allow," "deny," or "allow."

Please bear with me because I am completely tech-illiterate. I've been getting a weird pop-up from Skype for the past few weeks that I'm somewhat afraid to even interact with, as I don't know if this is some kind of hacking attempt or what.
